Financial Planning and Market Update 03/12/21
This month we mark International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month. For our team, we have been reflecting on women who have inspired us, the state of affairs of Women & Finance and opportunities to make a difference in bettering the lives of women and girls in our region especially as we know the “SheCession” is real. As Claudia Pazmany, our partner at the Amherst Chamber of Commerce shared, “In January 2021 alone, more than 275,000 women left the workforce, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, compared with 71,000 men. Overall, nearly 2.4 million women have exited the workforce since last February, compared with less than 1.8 million men. The continued disproportionate impact of Covid-19 on working women will have lasting impacts on the nation’s economy, said Jocelyn Frye, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress. And with this, we know that working women of color have been disproportionately impacted, only highlighting the societal inequities that predate the first coronavirus infection.”
This week our team member Joanna Ballantine attended a panel discussion sponsored by the Women’s Fund of Western MA celebrating Women in the C-Suite in our region and next month we are looking forward to participating in an important event the Amherst Chamber of Commerce is organizing on April 29th led the by Donna Haghighat, Executive Director of the Women’s Fund. Look for more next month in the Navigator on these important topics…
We hope you enjoy Daken Vanderberg’s Market Update, with Part II of his timely series on Cryptocurrency. As always we are supplying a link to the latest issue of our newsletter “The Soloist”, with another groundbreaking piece by Dr. Mary Young. We hope you enjoy it and choose to subscribe.
Enjoy the renewal of light and the spring buds! And bask in the hope fostered by the exuberant markets, the pace of vaccinations, the decline of Covid-19 cases, and the potentially most impactful piece of legislation since the New Deal. Stay well.
