Financial Planning and Market Update 04/19/21
“Spring is Here”
It’s one of my favorite songs because it both celebrates the season, but also provides a warning – expectations don’t always match the realities of a climate in flux. As great as things appear to be – rising vaccination rate (now over 35%), lower jobless claims, rising consumer sales, the stock market at record highs – it’s not a time to stray from the prudently diversified and disciplined course you are on. What a reversal from last year this time when our advice was about not “selling low” out of panic. Now we might warn against excessive exuberance, but it’s the same message – invest for the long term, establish a mix of asset classes with your financial adviser that corresponds to your time horizon and risk tolerance, and stay calm and disciplined in both down and up markets. As Daken Vanderburg says, we don’t know what the markets will do in the short term, but we know that investing in them remains a great way to build wealth over the long term.
Speaking of Daken, enjoy his recent Market Update. In it you’ll find a progress report as we move toward a hoped-for herd immunity, and a wild year of the markets in review, as well as Part III of his review of Cryptocurrency trends, possible opportunities and especially cautions.
In our Financial Planning Update you’ll find articles there on the options for delaying Social Security, the advantages of permanent over term life insurance, real estate as a way to diversify your investment profile, and useful information to help guide you through the mortgage application process.
And here is a link to our recent issue of “The Soloist”, our blog for Solos edited by Dr. Mary Young. If you have never checked it out, you’re in for a treat! Back issues of all our newsletters are available on our web site www.davisfinancialgrp.com.
Happy Spring! We’re hoping you’re able to get your vaccinations in a timely way and with minimal side effects. To do our part to help with your spring cleaning, we are happy to provide shredding for our clients and friends – contact Ellen Carey in our office and arrange for an appointment (we won’t have a public “event” this year, but hope to be able to revive our bagels and shredding tradition next year).
As always, we welcome referrals and are offering complementary consultations with a member of our team. Lastly, we are delighted to welcome the newest member of our group, Giovanni Perez. Gio joins us as a financial planner from John Hancock Retirement Services where he helped companies develop retirement plans and helped their employees make wise 401(K) investment decisions. We’re thrilled to have him as a member of our growing group!
